सूर्यांश आठवीं कक्षा में पढ़ता था और बड़ा ही होनहार छात्र था। वह सारे शिक्षक और अपने सभी सहपाठियों की मदद करता था। अपने माता पिता का भी लाडला था और अपने नाना जी से तो उसकी कुछ ज़्यादा ही बनती थी। एक दिन गणित की कक्षा में मास्टर साहब ने बोर्ड पर एक सवाल लिखा जो किसी को भी नहीं आ रहा था, सूर्यांश को भी नहीं। तभी सूर्यांश के शरारती दोस्त दिशान को एक शरारत सूझी, उसने अपने बैग से नकली सांप निकाला और अध्यापक के ऊपर फेंक दिया जिससे कि सब डर जायें और अगली कक्षा की घंटी का समय हो जाये। उसने यह सोचकर नकली सांप फेंका, मास्टर साहब इतने भयभीत हो उठे कि वह अपनी कुर्सी से ही उलटे गिर पड़े, उनके सिर में गहरी चोट आयी। दिशान घबरा गया और तुरंत ही कक्षा से भाग गया, कुछ देर बाद जब डॉक्टर आया और उनकी जाँच की तो यह पाया की चोट बहुत गंभीर तो नहीं थी। अगर चोट थोड़ी और गहरी होती तो अध्यापक की यादाश्त भी जा सकती थी, यह सब सुनकर दिशान बहुत ही सकपका गया। सूर्यांश को ये बात पता थी कि ऐसा नकली सांप दिशान के पास ही है लेकिन उसने अपना मुँह नहीं खोला। उसने दिशान के पास जाकर उससे पूछा कि क्या सांप उसने फेंका था? दिशान ने सर हिलाया और ना में जवाब दिया, सूर्यांश को पता था कि पकडे जाने के डर के कारण दिशान सच नहीं बोल रहा है। सूर्यांश ने उसे शांत करते हुए फिर से पूछा, इस शर्त के साथ कि वह किसी को नहीं बताएगा। दिशान ने यह बात मानी कि यह उसी की शरारत थी लेकिन सज़ा के डर के कारण वह सबके सामने आने से बहुत डर रहा था। जब मास्टर साहब एक सप्ताह बाद ठीक हुए तो वे स्कूल वापस आये और सूर्यांश की कक्षा में गणित पढ़ाने आये। सभी बच्चे उन्हें देख कर बहुत ही खुश हुए क्योंकि अब वह बिलकुल ठीक हो चुके थे। पूरे कक्षा के दौरान, शिक्षक ने उस दिन की कोई बात नहीं की। सूर्यांश ने घंटी बजने से थोड़े पहले दिशान को अध्यापक को सब सच बताने को कहा। दिशान नहीं मना और चुप रहा। सूर्यांश ने यह ठान लिया था कि उसे दिशान से सच बुलवाना ही है, चाहे उसके लिए उसे कुछ भी करना पड़े। सूर्यांश ने यह बात अपनी माँ को बताई और उन से मदद माँगी। सूर्यांश की माँ ने ये बात दिशान की माँ से की और उन्हें पूरी कहानी बताई। दिशान की माँ ने सबसे पहले सूर्यांश की बहुत तारीफ की और फिर कहा कि वह दिशान से सच बुलवाने का कोई तरीका तो ज़रूर निकालेंगी।

Translation
Suryansh studied in eighth grade and was a very sincere student. He used to help all the teachers and all his classmates. He was the apple of his parents’ eye and he used to have a bit more bonding with his maternal grandfather. One day, in the class of Mathematics, the teacher wrote a question on the board whose answer was not known to anyone, not even Suryansh. Just then Suryansh’s mischievous friend Dishan thought of doing a prank, he took out a fake snake from his bag and threw it at the teacher so that everyone would be scared and it would be time for the next class bell. Thinking that he threw a fake snake, the teacher was so frightened that he fell backwards from his chair, he got deeply hurt on his head. Dishan got nervous and immediately ran away from the class, after some time when the doctor came and examined him, he found out that the injury was not very serious. If the injury was a little deeper, the teacher’s memory could have been lost, hearing all this, Dishan was very upset. Suryansh knew that such a fake snake was possessed by Dishan but he did not speak up. He went to Dishan and asked him if he had thrown the snake? Dishan nodded and answered no, Suryansh knew that Dishan was not telling the truth due to fear of being caught. Suryansh asked him again, calming him down, with the condition that he would not tell anyone. Dishan admitted that it was his mischief but he was too afraid to face everyone due to fear of punishment. When the teacher recovered after a week, he came back to school and came to teach mathematics in Suryansh’s class. All the children were very happy to see them because he had fully recovered.
