Introduction:

Rakshabandhan, the festival of sisters and brothers has many things about it. The ritual, the festival symbolizes of love, affection and unconditional sacrifice that a sister, a woman, a girl asks her brother while tying the knot of Rakhi on her brother’s wrist. Rakhi, an embellished thread signifies a thread of love and sacrifice. The brother in return promises her of an eternal bond of love and protection. The universality of brother-sister relationship makes it a thing for the cultures to celebrate. It was initially a Hindu Festival, but with the system of multiculturalism, people from other cultures and religions are adapting it. Rakshabandhan isn’t limited to only the blood relations, one could step forward and tie a knot of Rakhi to anyone, whoever a girl seeks love and protection from.

परिचय:

रक्षाबंधन, बहनों और भाइयों का त्योहार, इसके बारे में कई बातें कही जाती हैं। यह त्योहार प्यार, स्नेह और बिना शर्त बलिदान का प्रतीक है जो कि एक बहन, एक महिला, एक लड़की अपने भाई की कलाई पर राखी बांधने के दौरान अपने भाई से माँगती है। राखी, एक सुशोभित धागा है जो प्रेम और बलिदान का प्रतीक है। बदले में भाई उसे प्यार और सुरक्षा के एक अनन्त बंधन का वादा करता है। भाई-बहन के रिश्ते की सार्वभौमिकता ही इसे अलग अलग संस्कृतियों के लिए मान्य योग्य बनाती है। यह शुरू में एक हिंदू त्योहार था, लेकिन बहुसंस्कृतिवाद प्रणाली के साथ, अन्य संस्कृतियों और धर्मों के लोग इसे स्वीकार कर रहे हैं।  रक्षाबंधन केवल रक्त संबंधों तक ही सीमित नहीं है, कोई भी आगे बढ़ सकता है और किसी को भी राखी बांध सकता है, जिस किसी से कोई लडकी प्यार और सुरक्षा चाहती है।

When is Raksha Bandhan celebrated? 

Rakshabandhan is celebrated every year in the month of Shravan (August) on the full moon day (Purnima ) every year.

रक्षा बंधन कब मनाया जाता है ?
रक्षाबंधन हर साल श्रावण (अगस्त) के महीने में पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है।

Why is Raksha Bandhan celebrated (The Stories)?

There are myriad stories behind every ritual of any culture. There’s always a history behind festivals. Rakshabandhan, similarly has a beautiful history of people promising love and security. There are mythical as well as real events from history that support the significance of Raksha-Bandhan.

By Indian Mythology, Draupadi tied the knot of Rakhi to Krishna and elevated their relationship, and in return, Krishna saved her from Kauravas.

A famous historical story says, Rani Karnavati of Mewar, was threatened by Bahadur Shah of Gujarat. She wrote a letter to Humayun, pleading help. She also sent a rakhi along with it. Humanyun came to help her and Mewar was restored.

रक्षा बंधन क्यों मनाया जाता है? (कहानियाँ):
किसी भी संस्कृति के प्रत्येक अनुष्ठान/संस्कार के पीछे अनेक कहानियाँ होती हैं।  त्योहारों के पीछे हमेशा एक इतिहास होता है। रक्षाबंधन, इसी तरह प्यार और सुरक्षा का वादा करने वाले लोगों का एक सुंदर इतिहास है।  इतिहास के साथ-साथ वास्तविक घटनाएँ भी हैं जो रक्षा-बंधन के महत्व का समर्थन करती हैं।

भारतीय पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, द्रौपदी ने कृष्ण को राखी बांधी और उनके रिश्ते को आगे बढ़ाया और बदले में, कृष्ण ने उन्हें कौरवों से बचाया।

एक प्रसिद्ध ऐतिहासिक कहानी के अनुसार, मेवाड़ की रानी कर्णावती को गुजरात के बहादुर शाह के द्वारा धमकी दी गयी थी। उसने मदद की गुहार लगाते हुए हुमायूँ को एक पत्र लिखा। उसने इसके साथ एक राखी भी भेजी थी। हुमायूँ उसकी मदद के लिए आया और मेवाड़ को बहाल कर दिया गया।

The significance of Rakshabandhan:

Rakshabandhan keeps sisters and brothers bonded. Sisters and brothers, even though living far away in different parts of the cities and world, come together to see each other, or they send rakhis through posts or emails. Alhough the mediums and the ways of the ritual could be changing, yet the significance, the intent of the festival remains intact.

रक्षाबंधन का महत्व:
रक्षाबंधन बहनों और भाइयों को बांधे रखता है।  बहनें और भाई, भले ही शहरों और दुनिया के अलग-अलग हिस्सों में बहुत दूर रहते हों, एक-दूसरे को देखने के लिए एक साथ आते हैं, या वे डाक या ईमेल के जरिए राखी भेजते हैं।  माध्यम और अनुष्ठान के तरीके बदल सकते हैं, फिर भी त्योहार को मनाने की सोच वही रहती है।

Conclusion of the Essay:

Every festival, every ritual has its own exclusive significance and symbolism. Rakshabandhan, as a festival, gives our culture an opportunity to celebrate, cherish the sister-brother bond.
